Mantua: Book and Writers 4th > 8th of September

The spotlights light on Mantua and on the Festivaletteratura (festivaletteratura.it), now in its 23rd edition.

From the 4th to the 8th of September, five days of workshops, meetings, concerts and shows with writers, poets, essayists, artists and scientists from around the world. In the program there are well-known names, but also new actors of the cultural scene, with hundreds of readings that will crowd squares, theaters, palaces.

The historic center of Mantua is a gem. It was designed by the Gonzagas, along with the greatest artists of the time. In the grandiose complex of Palazzo Ducale, Ludovico III entrusted Andrea Mantegna, among the protagonists of Italian art of the fifteenth century, with a fresco celebrating his dynasty. The pictorial cycle of the Camera degli Sposi was unveiled only after nine years of finishing the work. This masterpiece alone is worth the trip: it is no coincidence that Palazzo Ducale is among the most visited museums in Italy.

Here you can also admire the Romano Freddi Collection, which belonged to the entrepreneur who died in 2017, with works by Rubens and Giulio Romano. The latter, great architect, pupil of Raphael, was the creator of Palazzo Te, the leisure villa outside the town. The Bibiena Scientific Theater is also unique, an eighteenth-century jewel inaugurated by a young Mozart.
