A weekend between the sea and vineyards in Western Sicily

Long beaches of fine sand lapped by transparent water. Natural oases, reserves. But also expanses of olive groves and vineyards that descend to the sea. If this slice of Sicily enclosed between the coast of Porto Palo, the hills of Menfi and the Dune del Belice reserve has been called the Sicilian Napa Valley, there is a reason. It is from this area punctuated by small estates and large wineries that the revival of Sicilian wine started years ago, today one of the most appreciated by wine experts from all over the world.

And it is here, on the 7th and 8th of September, that the Mandrarossa Vineyard Tour is happening, a path for winelovers between the districts and vineyards of Menfi, where the Mandrarossa wines are born, a brand born from a rib of the historic Settesoli winery. (cantinesettesoli.it)

The program? Intense and for all tastes. In these two days it is possible to visit the vineyards and participate in the harvest with the local wine makers. The more sedentary can simply sip an aperitif while watching the sunset on the beach of the white Giache, or enjoy pairing the Mandrarossa wines - from the indigenous Grillo, Grecanico and Nero d'Avola, to the international Chardonnay, Merlot, Syrah -  with dishes prepared according to the ancients recipe books of mothers and grandmothers.

But the Vineyard Tour is above all the occasion to enjoy the beauty of a territory that has been awarded with the Blue Flag label for the constant attention to the marine and rural environment.

You explore it by bicycle, pedaling between beaches and pine forests; with naturalistic trekking and excursions to the mouth of the Belice river, among expanses of dunes, reeds and flights of migratory birds; or with horseback rides in the districts of Menfi, in the middle of the vineyards adorning the sides of the hills. Don't miss the boat trip, to admire from the water the most suggestive views of the coast and discover the more secluded coves. And, for the more adventurous, a hang-glider flight to enjoy the sea and vineyards from a different perspective.

To animate the two evenings of the event, the live concerts of two Palermo bands: I fil gud (Saturday 7th September) and Tre Terzi (Sunday 8th September).
