Smaller than its grander neighbour of Bellagio, the village of Varenna has a slightly more authentic feel than other Como resorts and has a pretty waterfront and a tiny stone beach.

In practical terms, it is very conveniently located on the lake, with direct trains to Milan, and is connected to other towns and villages on the lake by regular car and passenger ferries.
