Puglia is the more sophisticated region of Italy’s south, with 800km of coastline and enormous stretches of sandy beaches. Well served by airports in Bari and Brindisi, this is a land of endless olive groves, conical-shaped trulli, creamy burrata cheese and orecchiette pasta.
Visit the Valle d’Itria to see the UNESCO World Heritage centre of Alberobello and other towns in the valley including Locorotondo and Martina Franca.
Other regional highlights include Ostuni and baroque Lecce, a magnificent old town with churches, palazzi and café-fringed piazzas. Family attractions in Puglia include the Zoo Safari at Fasano in the Valle d’Itria and Indiana Park, an adventure playground near Monopoli.
