Ortea Palace Hotel

Originally the post office of Syracuse, the magnificent building of the Ortea Palace has been sympathetically restored and is now home to one of the finest luxury hotels in Sicily.

Overlooking the Porto Piccolo and the Gulf of Ortigia, the Ortea Palace is full to bursting with elegant interior design features, including Zanaboni furniture, Milanese tapestries, a precious marble staircase and even two breath taking Murano chandeliers, making it the perfect setting for you to enjoy a much-needed break from reality.

Live like royalty as you experience everything the palazzo has to offer, including the exclusive spa (complete with a Finnish sauna, hammam, whirlpool, an indoor salt water pool, emotional showers, sanospas and sanotherm), fitness suite, a fashion boutique and even a jewellery corner, where you can purchase unique trinkets that display Sicilian craftsmanship.

If you prefer relaxing outdoors, you can always head out to the hotel’s private beach, before heading inside for a delicious, typically Sicilian meal in either the hotel’s gourmet restaurant (which boasts stunning sea views), or their more informal bistro. Follow up with a visit to the cream coloured Champagnette for exclusive after dinner cocktails, or head down the white-stoned cellar (which boasts over 200 labels of Sicilian and international wines) for a tantalising wine tasting.

Rooms at the Ortea Palace combine simplicity and luxury, as they are bright, spacious, and accented with tasteful Italian furniture, and soft furnishings in shades from green to pearl grey, cardinal red to azure sea blue.

Whilst all rooms feature marble floors and opulent chandeliers, it’s the Tower Suite that you want to book if you’re looking to sit in the lap of luxury. Located on the 3 rd floor of the hotel, it boasts enviable views of the Ortigia sea, which you can enjoy from one of the suite’s two balconies.

With sumptuous leather arm chairs, and wooden writing desks, it the perfect place to get a spot of work done whilst on holiday, especially as the Tower Suite has a connecting room that can be used as a board room for business visitors. Or, if you’re taking a complete break from the rat race, you can simply forget all your worries as you indulge in the suite’s exposed bathtub.

Hotel Restaurant

You really can spoil yourself in Incanto, the Ortea Palace’s very own gourmet restaurant, which is made of completely glass walls giving you enviable views out onto crystal clear waters as you dine.

Recline in the restaurant’s decadent red velvet chairs as you select from a menu of authentic Sicilian dishes, with options ranging from fresh seafood platters and sea urchin pastas, to caviar linguine, and even lobster tails with leek and asparagus.

Or if you fancy something slightly more relaxed (but no less delicious), you can head to Il Cortile, the marble floored bistro which is the beating heart of the hotel, and also doubles up as the breakfast room. Here you can feast on pistachio cream filled croissants, cured Italian meats and cheeses. What better way to start the day?
Other Restaurant Nearby
Overall is difficult to have a bad meal in Siracusa but for the non-plus-ultra we recommend the restaurants Le Comari Don Camillo (this is particularly suitable for vegetarian) and the low-key, laid-back Taberna Sveva which has great unpretentious Sicilian fare including seafood.

Ortea Palace is an elegant Palazzo del 1900, known as "Palazzo delle Poste" located in the historic center of Syracuse, on the beautiful little port of the island of Ortigia, a few steps from the most important monuments of the city, restaurants, cafes and boutiques

2019’s theme is “Women and War” so visitors will be treated to renditions of Trojan Women, Helen (both by Euripides), and finally the hilarious Lysistrata, Aristophanes’ comedy telling of how the women of Athens protested against the Peloponnesian War with an ardent sex strike.
