Italian Car-Free Holidays

If you are used to daily driving, going car-free can be incredibly liberating. Take advantage of high-speed trains between cities, local buses to manoeuvre winding roads, and ferries and boats for the best coastal views. If you prefer not to fly, we can also advise on rail holidays that avoid air travel.

The hotels have been chosen for their convenient locations and comforts and if you are short on time, we can help you arrange chauffeur-driven excursions and private guided tours of most of Italy's world-class sights and historic towns.

To save you time and stress we always include private airport transfers in our holidays and only use tested and selected drivers.

Amalfi Coast

Because of its geological conformation, the Amalfi Coast is a real rebus for traffic, especially during the summer. The local buses provide a useful solution for travelling between the coastal towns and you can just relax and enjoy the panorama. Parking is also a nightmare and, when available, expensive. Not only buses but also metro-trains and hydrofoil make travelling around the Amalfi Coast as easy as 1-2-3.

The huge concentration of attractions along the coast means that you are never far away from a multitude of interesting sights. Looking for a combination of City+Beach+Spa? Try a holiday between Naples and Ischia

Sicily

Don't fancy driving? You will be able to get by without too many problems. Although they do not enjoy an excellent reputation for efficiency and punctuality, trains and buses in Sicily make it possible to move quite easily from one point to another.

You may want to incorporate a few days at a winery or stop off for a night or two to visit the Valley of the Temples in Agrigento. Either way, kicking off in the lively cities of Palermo or Siracusa is the perfect introduction to the island, while a beach ‘finale’ in the south-east, in Taormina or on one of the Aeolian islands is the ideal wind-down at the end of a busy week or two.

Italian cities

Enjoy chilled city life without time pressures or everyday stresses: the perfect opportunity to get a window on another world, explore a new culture and learn more about art, architecture and history. All our city centre hotels are a gentle stroll from key locations and within easy reach of the station which makes city-hopping with rail travel an attractive option.

We can arrange ticketless travel, reserve your seats and suggest the best way to get from A to Z.

Get the low down before you go on the best sights and local restaurants, ask us about opera and theatre tickets and find out about local excursions.
